High Shear Mixer

High shear mixers serve more purposes than just mixing. They are also used for emulsification, homogenization, disintegration, particle size reduction and dispersion. The high shear mixer (HSM) once served only a small niche in mixing applications but is now in broad use. The rotor/stator mixer is a common type of high shear mixer and is known for its ability to apply intense high shear and shorten the mixing cycle in applications that require fluids to be formulated into emulsions or agglomerated powders to be dispersed into a liquid medium. In a batch rotor/stator mixer a rotor turns at high speed within a fixed stator. With each pass through the rotor/stator, materials or liquids experience intense mechanical and hydraulic shear that reduces droplet or particle size quickly. High shear mixers can be designed for either batch or continuous applications.
