Belt conveyor systems are used in the food industry in both the processing and packaging of food products. A belt conveyor consists of two or more pulleys with a continuous loop of material that rotates about them (the conveyor belt). Belt conveyors can be used to elevate, decline and transport product for inspection, cooling, storing or conveying. Common product applications include the conveying of bulk products, nuts, pet food, potato products, snacks and cereal as well as processed fruits and vegetables and fresh cut meat and poultry. They are available in a wide variety of widths, lengths, designs and materials. Sanitary design and easy cleaning are important in food applications. Belt types can be fabric, wire-mesh and plastic. The belt profile is determined by the application. Belt conveyors can be floor mounted, suspended, mounted on casters or integrated with other material handling systems.
